OBJECTIVES
Operating systems are
essential part of any computer system. It is a program that manages computer
hardware it provides a basis for application program and acts as an
intermediary between computer user and computer hardware. It is the field
undergoing rapid change. As computer are now prevalent in every application
from games through the most sophisticated planning tools. For the systems to
work properly and user friendly the proper design of operating system is very
important.
This
subject provides an introductory course in operating system. It covers the
different concepts of process management, memory management, storage
management, protection and security. The operating system makes a computer more
convenient and efficient to use. It permits the effective development, testing
and introduction of new system functions without interfering with service.
Operating system is large and complex, it must be created piece by piece, and
each of these pieces should be well delineated portion of the system with
carefully defined inputs, outputs and functions.
